As it did at the end of each fiscal quarter, Nintendo has just updated the figures on the page of its business site dedicated to the total sales of its consoles and games. And the latter can see that thanks to the latest sales of the Switch, Nintendo has passed the 800 million consoles sold around the world since the release of Famicom in Japan in 1983. To be more specific, this total is Now, according to Nintendo, 800.07 million.
For the curious, here is this total divided by family of machines, with numbers arrested on June 30, 2021:
- Nintendo DS: 154.02 million consoles sold
- GAME BOY: 118.69 million
- Wii: 101.63 million **
- Nintendo Switch: 89.04 million
- Game Boy Advance: 81,51 million
- Nintendo 3DS: 75.94 million
- FAMICOM / NES: 61.91 million
- Super Famicom / SNES: 49,10 million
- Nintendo 64: 32.93 million
- Nintendo Gamecube: 21.74 million
- Wii U: 13.56 million
Wii figures aside, these totals highlight a fairly marked offset between portable console sales and sales of salon consoles. The switch is particularly case in the sense that it alone must make sales of portable consoles and living room.
the billion, yes, but when?
Note that according to certain calculations, this total could be even higher. Indeed, the latter does not take into account the sales (for the least modest) of Virtual Boy, those of Game & Watch or those of so-called "mini" consoles like the Nintendo Classic Mini: Nintendo Entertainment System and the Nintendo Classic Mini : Super Nintendo Entertainment System.
Nintendo has not finished with the consoles, it does not appear excluded that it achieves the billion consoles sold around the world. However, it is possible to wonder for the time it will take to reach this historical course. This will obviously depend on the success of its upcoming machines. And if it will certainly not reach the billion alone, everything is growing to believe that the switch will contribute to the war effort, with the SWITCH OLED, for example, in a non-negligible manner.
