NBA News, Dallas Mavericks: MAVs probably fails shortly with Trade for Celtics

A few years ago, Dallas Mavericks were apparently shortly before a trade that Paul Pierce had brought to the side of Dirk Nowitzki. This confirmed both Pierce and MAV's owner Mark Cuban. The deal failed but lately second.

As Chris Mannix reported in Sports Illustrated, Pierce in the spring of 2007 has expressed his trade desire to the MAVs at a random meeting with Cuban in Las Vegas. The Celtics legend, which will be added to the Hall of Fame next weekend, looked at itself as a missing puzzle part for the MAVs.

I'm in my prime and I see all the guys in the playoffs. That was depressing, Pierce explained. In the 2006/07 season, the Kelten missed the playoffs for the second time in a row, with a balance sheet of 24-58, the team around Pierce was even the worst of the Eastern Conference. I thought it was for me. I thought I would go.

Cuban confirmed in a tweet that the MAVs were apparently just before a trade for Pierce. According to the statement of the MAVS owner, however, this happened only a few years later. We had a finished deal, a three-team trade. All teams had agreed on the deal, Cuban wrote.

However, the third team that Cuban did not want to reveal just before the call at the League Office made a retractor: They did not know that a round-round chip should go to the Celtics. They were ultimately decided not to go through the deal.

Paul Pierce wins the title with the Celtics in 2008

In the summer of 2007, Pierce finally got the right personnel for an attack on the championship at Boston. General Manager Danny Ainge threaded trades for Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen, the new Big Three led the Celts directly in the following season to the title.

Pierce finally spent 15 of his 19 years in the Association in Boston. In 2013, in the famous-notorious Celtics-Nets Trade, the paths, Pierce then ran for the Nets, Wizards and Clippers, before signing a single-day contract in Boston in 2017 and officially ended his career as Celtic.

In his career, the ten-time All-Star and Finals-MVP scored the second-way points in the franchise history of the Celts. Overall, he set up 19.7 points in his career and 5.6 rebounds.
